Dry needling explained..

Tight, aching muscles that just won’t let go? Dry needling could be the release they’ve been waiting for.

Our practitioners use this technique to help ease pain, improve mobility, and target stubborn muscle tension. You may have experienced it during a consultation or seen it as part of treatment for everything from fresh sports injuries to long-term discomfort. Many people find it especially effective for releasing overworked, tight muscles.

How it works
Using ultra-fine needles (similar to acupuncture but with a different purpose), we target tight areas in the muscle called “trigger points.” The needle is carefully inserted into the muscle, creating a precise micro-stimulus that can:

  • Interrupt pain signals sent to the brain

  • Release tight muscle bands

  • Improve blood flow and promote healing

What it feels like
You might feel a small prick as the needle enters, followed by a quick “twitch” or cramp-like sensation. This is often a sign the muscle is releasing.

After treatment, some people feel immediate improvement, while others may notice mild soreness for 24–48 hours. Gentle stretching, staying hydrated, and applying heat or ice can help ease recovery.

Part of a bigger picture
Dry needling is just one of the tools we combine with osteopathic manual therapy, targeted exercises, and stretching to help restore healthy muscle function and movement.
